SPACE 01 is a Black-owned, artist-run gallery located on the west side of Chicago, dedicated to uplifting underrepresented artists and fostering a community-driven creative space. We prioritize the work of artists of color, offering a platform for radical storytelling, artistic experimentation, and cultural resistance.
Previously stationed in Logan Square, the new focus is to cultivate a modular environment suited for several artistic mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, fiber, and more. Artists should feel empowered to explore, assemble, and deconstruct their practice, free from censorship or harassment.
The space is proudly operated by Trejon D’Angelo, a photographer, musician, and pastry chef raised in Dallas, TX. With a passion for storytelling and community engagement, Trejon curates SPACE 01 programming to amplify emerging artists while cultivating a space for artistic and social resistance.
This comfort depends on overwhelming decay Constantly wanting more The race to satisfy every new need In an instant, it’s forever Plastic image will outlive your body If I were to really look at you, I would have to stop hurting you
Your body is embraced by the Earth and nurtures seeds to sprout Our roots dig deeper In the dark, we look and listen to each other Every breath in and out, a rejection of the systems that harm New shapes break through intolerable structures All empires fall We will play in the sun again
